Annual 2008 Great Thanksgiving Banquet
Homeless Guests to Enjoy Traditional Holiday Feast

Thanksgiving is just around the corner!

This year, Memphis Union Mission will again open its doors to some of the city's neediest men, women, and children to provide a traditional Thanksgiving feast.

As with previous years, the Mission expects to feed over 600 people during the annual Great Thanskgiving Banquet on Wednesday, November 26.

Our guests will enjoy a delicious feast, complete with ham, turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, drinks, and dessert. And over 120 volunteers from all over the city will help serve that day.

For more information, please call (901) 526-8403.

Please Note: Due to the generous outpouring of support, we cannot use any more volunteers for Thanksgiving this year.

Please don't be disappointed! We appreciate your interest and would love to have your help on another day!

To schedule a time to serve at another time (outside of Thanksgiving weekend), please contact Greg Pointer at (901) 526-8434, ext. 1008.

Critical Need for Blankets
Blankets Needed to Provide Overnight Shelter for Homeless Guests

As cooler weather and the holiday season approaches, Memphis Union Mission is facing a critical shortage in blankets.

We can accept both new and gently-used blankets. Twin-size would be preferable, but we will accept any size. If you could help in any way, we would greatly appreciate it and will immediately put the blankets to good use.

On any given night, Memphis Union Mission will provide overnight shelter to an average of 150 people. During cold weather, the number can increase to as many as 275 people. Clean, usable blankets are vital to providing overnight shelter.

To donate blankets, please drop them off at 383 Poplar Ave. or at 170 Tillman St. We will provide a receipt, if you would like.

For more information, or to get help with launching a blanket drive, please call
(901) 526-8403.

New Moriah House Officially Opens
Room Sponsorships Still Available

Memphis Union Mission is pleased to announce that it has effectively wrapped up its Moriah House capital campaign.

An open house was held in early May, and women and children are now residing in the new facility.

Moriah House serves women whose lives have been wrecked by domestic violence, substance abuse, crisis pregnancy, and clinical depression. The current facility is located in Midtown, but the new site is located on 4.2 acres of land in East Memphis.

Room and playground sponsorships are still available. Sponsorships are a great opportunity for churches, Sunday school classes and small groups to get involved in the lives of the women and children.

Click here for more information about sponsoring a room.

For more information, please contact Steve Carpenter at (901) 526-8403.
